FollowMe
FollowMe is another feature of the OfficeIPLink™ PBX. It allows you to set additional extensions to try when the primary extension is not answered.
This means that someone could have two or more extensions. You might think that this is unusual, but especially with an IP Based PBX system, this is more common than you think. Typical scenarios might be:
- Warehouse manager, may have a phone in his office, but also carry a portable phone on his belt (or fixed phone in another location in the warehouse)
- Remote worker may have a phone in the office, but also have a remote phone on site (or at their home if they work from home on certain days)
- The Managing Director may have his calls ring on their Personal Assistants desk after he has not answered it after a set period.
- Some staff with laptops, may use a soft-phone (software based phone), used mainly when they are remote as well as a Hardware phone in office
In effect these are personal Ring Groups (look under the Ring Group Feature if you are not sure what these are). Due to the number of extensions that a PBX can have, they are kept out of the main Ring Groups area, and listed under the extension. They also however have a couple of small variations to the normal Ring Group, such as being able to set the Primary Extension, make it ring the last answered extension first, select a time that it then rings the additional extensions. You can even set a message to tell the client that the phone system is locating the person you are after on alternative extensions, so that the caller remains on the line knowing that their call is progressing.
